Who is this restroom cleaning checklist for?
- Restaurants, cafes, and retail stores that clean customer restrooms during the day
- Office buildings and facilities where a cleaning crew or janitor services the restrooms
- Managers who want proof that restrooms were cleaned and restocked on schedule
When to use it
Post a new sheet on the first day of each month, one sheet per restroom. The person who cleans marks each item and writes initials and the time in that day's column. If you clean several times a day, use one sheet per shift or add rows for each round.
What's included

| 12 | ■ How to use |
| 13 | 1. Write the restroom location and month at the top, print the Print sheet, and post it inside the door or near the sink. |
| 14 | 2. After cleaning, mark each item ✓. Mark N/A for items the room does not have, such as a baby changing station. |
| 15 | 3. Write your initials and the time in that day's column. |
| 16 | 4. If something is broken or clogged, mark X, close or sign the fixture, and tell your supervisor. Write it in the problem record. |
| 17 | 5. At the end of the month, take the sheet down and keep it on file. |
| 18 | |
| 19 | ■ How to mark results, and what to do (read before you start) |
| 20 | ✓ OK … Use as normal. |
| 21 | X Defect … Stop using it right away. Tell your supervisor and fill in the defect record below. |
| 22 | N/A … Not applicable today. Do not leave the cell blank. A blank cell means "not checked". |
| 23 | The person doing the inspection may decide to stop. Nobody is blamed for stopping. If in doubt, mark X. |
| 24 | After a repair, do not use it until the verifier writes the date and time it was returned to service. |
| 25 | |
| 26 | ■ Adapting it to your site |
| 27 | • For high-traffic restrooms, add a row for each round (for example 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM) instead of one time row. |
| 28 | • Add items your site needs, such as seat cover dispensers, air freshener, or floor drains. |
| 29 | • For a restaurant, you can add an "Employees must wash hands" sign check if you post one. |
| 30 | |
| 31 | ■ Things to watch |
| 32 | • This is a general cleaning checklist. It is not an official form from a health department or any other agency. |
| 33 | • Restaurants and food businesses may have restroom and handwashing rules in their local health code. Check with your local health department. |
| 34 | • Use cleaning chemicals as the label says. Do not mix bleach and ammonia products, and wear gloves. |
| 35 | • If you find a leak or a clog that could flood the floor, close the restroom or put out a wet floor sign before you continue. |

Restroom Cleaning Checklist FAQ
What should be on a restroom cleaning checklist?
Most checklists cover toilets and urinals, sinks and mirrors, floors, trash, touch points such as handles and faucets, and restocking toilet paper, soap, and paper towels. This template has 12 such items plus a check for odor and broken fixtures.
How often should a restaurant restroom be cleaned?
It depends on traffic. Many restaurants check customer restrooms every 1 to 2 hours during service and do a full cleaning once a day. Your local health code may also have requirements.
Can I print this restroom cleaning log?
Yes. Use the Print sheet. It fits a whole month on one US Letter page in landscape, so you can post it on the restroom door.
Why should I post the checklist in the restroom?
A posted sheet shows customers that the restroom is cleaned on a schedule, and it reminds staff to do each round. Missed days are easy to spot.
